Book is short and to the point. I was shocked that "30% to 35% of Americans report difficulty falling asleep...10% with long standing insomnia." Those numbers are astronomical. For something as important as sleep it seems hard to believe the problem affects so many.

The author mentions people don't view insomnia as a serious medical condition. That maybe but since I didn't know how bad the problem was, could it be there's a lack of awareness causing the apathy more than disbelief of insomnia's seriousness?

In the Chapter "Science of Sleep" I was fascinated by the stages of sleep which I also saw in Tim Ferriss' book 4 Hour Body. The whole 'must have 8 hours sleep' has been turned on its head. Otherwise how can giraffes (way huger than us) sleep under 2 hours of every 24 hour day?

Author did a good job telling how long each sleep stage should take. If you don't know some guidelines how do you know if you have a problem?

Pills...

"Americans spend $5 Billion a year on sleeping pills". Didn't know this and would like to know the source. That seems too gargantuan a dollar amount to believe.
I knew medications as a whole had dubious benefits at best but sleep pills seem to be among the lowest performers.

While I disagree with some of the foods recommended to eat right before bed the author offers a clear plan to better sleep. It's well-written and formatted. I give it 4 stars.

Failing to sleep can be a nightmare, one that affects me quite often. The information in this book covers a wide range of reasons for not sleeping together with a range of strategies for dealing with the problem.

Several of the reasons for not sleeping fit me and my sleeping problems which I am actively trying out. Some of the strategies seem obvious when reading them but without this book I would never have thought about them in the way given. I feel sure that this book will help me cure my problems as it would anyone who suffers this problem.

The Power of Sleep was a short, easy read and a few great gems of wisdom were found inside.
I have not been sleeping well of late and bought this book in hopes of some sleep aid! I'm glad I did as I've been using some of the techniques which before reading this book I was unfamiliar with. They have been working great!
I will make my brother read this book when he comes to visit over the Christmas holidays as he has suffered with insomnia for the last year and I am confident after learning the techniques and using them myself that he will be able to implement them with great results too!

This is a somewhat short book, but worked really well for me. It was simple to read and the tips made since and worked for me.
Fair book. Gives some good info but nothing that was earthshattering or beyond common sense. I will go through the book again hoping that the second time through will give me a little bit more.
I suffer from sleep onset insomnia, so often struggle to get to sleep at night. On the occasions I do get straight to sleep, I frequently wake up a couple of hours later. Not fun. I've tried useless herbal remedies and countless other solutions, but am yet to find something that works for me. This fascinating book from Maria Johnson goes a long way to explaining my type of insomnia, as well as number of other sleep disorders, as well as the five stages of sleep, how much you as an individual should require, the nutritional resources behind sleeping well, how to create the best sleep environment and much more besides. This book is a must purchase for anyone that suffers from sleepless nights.
We all could use a better night's sleep. The author does an excellent job of telling about sleep, how much you need and what to do if sleep is your enemy.

I, like many others, have trouble going to sleep after an especially stressful day. I will start using the relaxation techniques taught in this book. The book is easy to read and laid out well. The thing that will help me most is the relaxing methods.
These are good to remember any time, but in particular at night when you are getting ready to sleep.

I know the dangers of Apnea.One of them is not being able to sleep with the snoring that it causes. It can be quite dangerous and Marie points out these dangers. The person that suffers with Apnea is nearly always tired all the next day.

This is a must have for anyone that has sleeping difficulties.
