It's hard to like a gossip, especially one who thinks she is so much more than an opportunistic eavesdropper. This is the main reason I was not enthralled with Gaelen Foley's newest Inferno novel My Scandalous Viscount; its heroine was not all that admirable.Carissa Portland calls herself "a lady of information", in fact this moniker constantly runs through her mind to justify all her snooping and eavesdropping behavior. Carissa loves to gather information and her nosiness gets her into a compromising position with hero Sebastian, Viscount Beauchamp. Carissa has a huge infatuation with Sebastian so it is not all that upsetting to her that they marry.
Sebastian belongs to the Inferno club, those brave men who have formed a secret alliance saving the crown from evil forces. Sebastian genuinely likes Carissa's carefree nature and he also is not overly put out that he is marrying her. He is troubled that she is known as a gossip and it is imperative that she be able to keep secrets.
Carissa comes off a bit immature and self centered (when her friends leave town unexpectedly, Carissa worries more about why she was excluded rather than be concerned about their wellbeing) and she is nosy. Carissa just needs to know everything about her husband to include his work but she is not going to reciprocate because Carissa has a secret which she refuses to tell her husband.
*Spoiler* Carissa likes to believe she is smarter than her husband, and this becomes apparent when she chooses not to tell him she is not a virgin. Of course, she thinks she is clever enough to fool him on her wedding night. I found her rational for not saying anything before the wedding understandable but her thought process after the wedding to be flawed.
Sebastian is not perfect, in fact he is wishes his past was not so rakish which is a welcome surprise from a hero. I liked Sebastian but not as much as some of the other members of the Inferno. Sebastian was loyal but did not accomplish the heroic deeds of his fellow Inferno colleagues. His is a more cerebral approach, not that the others were not as erudite but Sebastian does not face danger like his brother in arms did in their novels.
Overall this book was flat, the story with not as exciting as previous novels and the romance was tepid, the emotional dialogue which Ms. Foley usually writes beautifully was missing. Here's hoping that the next installment will have some of the fireworks that were missing in this installment.

My Scandalous Viscount Inferno Club Gaelen Foley 9780062075932 Books Reviews
For those of you who gave this a low review based on Drake's story, 'My Ruthless Prince', I can understand why. It is hard for an author to write the next sequel, when the prior book was so well received and had an explosive story. Remember though that Beau's team, which includes Nick and Trevor, were a separate unit/division, of the order. The author wants the reader to realize that this book is now about team two, as I refer to them as, not team one, that ended with the last book. Even though they are all part of the Inferno club.
Taking that into account, I went into Beau's story open minded. At first, I wasn't sure how the author was going to bring Beau and Carissa's story together. Carissa, a friend of Daphne's in book one, My Wicked Marquess, is known as "a lady of information", rather then a snoop or gossip. I love that terminology. Too funny. Carissa was orphaned and raised by her aunt but after she got compromised, her uncle took her in in order to avoid the gossip of the ton.
When Beau's friend Nick shows up alive, after Beau thought he was dead, the reader is led to believe that Nick has turned into a traitor. When Nick discloses that Trevor is also alive, Beau is shocked beyond belief. Both of these men have been best friends of his since childhood. Beau is at first happy until he thinks that Nick has defected.
Here is the question that I had going into this book. If the Promethians were killed off in the last book, then how could this series continue for the Inferno Club?
Ahh, you will be surprised. GF gives the story a twist near the end, that made me give this the extra star. Great ending. If it wasn't for the action that started in the second half of this book, the book would have been a 3 or 3.5 star at the most.
I am looking forward to Trevor's story next and then Nick's, which will be the last book in this series.
